Features 4K Micro-OLED and Gemini AI Integration, Launch Scheduled for Late 2025
Seoul, May 27, 2025 – Google announced the unveiling of its extended reality (XR) platform ‘Android XR’ and the first device ‘Project Infinity,’ developed in collaboration with Samsung Electronics and Qualcomm. This marks the Android ecosystem’s first premium XR device designed to compete directly with Apple’s Vision Pro.

Project Infinity incorporates Sony’s 4K micro-OLED display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen2 chipset. The device is fully integrated with Google’s generative artificial intelligence ‘Gemini,’ enabling multimodal experiences that simultaneously process voice, image, and text inputs, according to Google.
Strategic Three-Way Partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm
The project operates through a collaborative framework where Google provides the platform and AI technology, Samsung Electronics handles hardware design and manufacturing, and Qualcomm supplies optimized chipsets. Google described this as “the next evolutionary step where the Android ecosystem naturally expands into the XR domain.”
A key feature of Project Infinity is seamless integration with existing Google services. Users can directly access everyday services like YouTube, Google Maps, and Google Photos within the XR environment. Voice commands such as “Hey Gemini, take me to the Eiffel Tower in Paris” provide immersive experiences of actual locations.
Competitive Edge Against Apple Vision Pro
In terms of hardware performance, Project Infinity matches the Apple Vision Pro’s capabilities. It delivers 4K resolution with over 3,500 pixels per inch (PPI) clarity and 90Hz refresh rate for smooth visual transitions. The detachable battery design reduces the main unit’s weight to under 500 grams, significantly improving wearability.
Price competitiveness is another notable advantage. While Apple Vision Pro costs $3,499 (approximately 4.8 million won), Project Infinity is expected to be priced between $2,500-3,000 (approximately 3.4-4.1 million won), according to industry projections.
The hand tracking technology has received high praise for its accuracy. Users report precise recognition of subtle gestures, including pinch movements between thumb and index finger for pressing small buttons or resizing windows.
Developer Ecosystem Expansion Expected
The Android XR platform offers advantages for app ecosystem development, as existing Android developers can easily participate. Multiple Korean companies, including Naver, have announced platform support.
Counterpoint Research, an XR market analysis firm, predicts that “Google’s entry into Android XR will drive the 2025 XR market into a genuine mass adoption phase,” adding that “connectivity with existing smartphone ecosystems will be a crucial factor in market expansion.”
Project Infinity is scheduled for official release in late 2025. Google plans to launch a beta program for developers starting in the second half of this year.
